“Anything can happen in Monaco,” says Valtteri Bottas after missing out on a pole position at Monaco GP

Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas has not had the best start to his F1 season this year, as he managed to collect just 47 points from his four races so far. The Finnish driver already finds himself 33 points behind Max Verstappen, and 47 points behind championship leader, Lewis Hamilton. For Bottas, a strong performance at Monaco GP is of utmost importance.

However, Valtteri Bottas failed gain an early advantage on Saturday, as he could manage to finish on the third spot in the qualifying session. It was a decent performance from the Mercedes driver, whose teammate, Lewis Hamilton struggled to get any sort of grip and finished on the seventh spot. Bottas will now start in the second row on Sunday, alongside the fourth-placed, Carlos Sainz.

The third qualifying session was halted after Charles Leclerc crashed into the barriers. As a result, the session was red-flagged and the Ferrari driver finished on pole. Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas were on flying laps, before the red flag was shown. As a result, both drivers had to abandon their laps and finished second and third respectively.

Valtteri Bottas was disappointed with how the qualifying session ended, but is willing to give it his all on Sunday. “It’s disappointing I didn’t get my last run with the red flag, that’s how it is sometimes… “We’ll try everything we can tomorrow, it’s Monaco – anything can happen,” said Bottas.

Valtteri Bottas has finished P3 on three occasions so far this season, and will hope to better his performance at the Monaco GP. The Finnish driver finished third at the Portugal and Spanish GP in consecutive weeks. This is a golden opportunity for Bottas to outrace Lewis Hamilton, who starts from the fourth row on Sunday. The start of the race will be very crucial for Bottas, as overtaking in Monaco can be quite a task.
