Monaco GP: A pit-stop mishap ends Valtteri Bottas’ race in Monte Carlo
Valtteri Bottas
Valtteri Bottas started from the front row on Sunday, after Charles Leclerc failed to start the race at the Monaco GP. Leclerc suffered a gear box damage which ruled him out of the race, despite starting on pole position. Valtteri Bottas had an incredible opportunity to challenge Max Verstappen for the win, as Lewis Hamilton started from the fourth row.
However, Valtteri Bottas suffered yet another tragedy as the Finnish driver never made it out of the pits. The 31-year old was going strong in the second place, behind Max Verstappen but a pit-stop mishap ruined his chances. The Mercedes crew were unable to get the tyres off, and Bottas waited in the pits for more than 50 seconds, before he jumped out of his car.
Max Verstappen leads the race
Max Verstappen is all set to claim all 25 points on Sunday, as he leads the Monaco GP by quite a distance. Halfway through the race, the Dutch driver has opened up a three second gap to the second place, Carlos Sainz.
Lewis Hamilton is currently struggling in Monte Carlo, as he is still running seventh behind the Alpha Tauri driver, Pierre Gasly. Lando Norris is battling for a second podium finish this season, as he is running third. Sergio Perez has made up four places in the main race, as he runs fourth, ahead of Sebastian Vettel. The Mexican also has the fastest lap of the race to his name so far after 48 laps.
