”Very little to evaluate,” Christian Horner reveals no major updates for Red Bull in Imola
Max Verstappen
Red Bull have lost some early ground in the championship race, as Ferrari continue to turn heads in the opening part of the season. Red Bull have already had three DNF’s to their name in as many races so far, with Max Verstappen being a victim of reliability issues in Bahrain and in Australia.
There is still a long way to go in the season, but Max Verstappen already finds himself 46 points behind Charles Leclerc, who has managed to win two races, and three successive podium finishes. On the other hand, the reigning champion has managed to just finish one race this season.
Next race on the calendar is the Imola GP, which will be held from April 22-24. This will be the first sprint race weekend of the season, as teams are hesitant on bringing new upgrades. Similarly, even Christian Horner has thrown doubts over fresh upgrades in Imola, due to the limited time between qualifying and practice sessions.
Christian Horner unwilling to bring upgrades in Imola
Small upgrades are being planned for both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in Imola, next week. However, Christian Horner has hinted that they might not give comprehensive upgrades to both drivers in Imola, because there is very little time to evaluate the performance.
“Because it’s a sprint race you get very little time to evaluate these things. We have one session and then qualifying starts. You have to be very sure of what you put on the car,” said Horner, as quoted by GPBlog.
Even, Mattia Binotto rules out bringing in fresh upgrades for Imola GP, as they have aim to bring in a new power unit by the time the Spanish GP is around the corner. Imola will be a massive test for Red Bull, as the pressure will be on Max Verstappen to claim the win. He cannot afford any slip ups at this point in time, although we are just three races into the season.
