At the livery launch of McLaren’s MCL36, current serving CEO of McLaren, Zak Brown was spotted saying that the “right people” had taken the decision to build a long-term relationship with the company. The people in question here are Australian professional racing driver Daniel Ricciardo and the young British driver Lando Norris.
After the unveiling of their 2022 car, McLaren’s boss seemed rather hopeful ahead of the 2022 Formula One season with newly implemented technical rules. The CEO believes that they’re expecting positive things for the team as a whole ahead and with all the right amount of boost, they’ll be able to contend for the World Championships in the years that are to come.
What does Brown have to say about the upcoming season?

Brown believes that if strictly analyzing where they stand right now from the current serving personnel perspective, then they’ve got nothing to worry about with Andrea Seidl leading the team as the team principal and with Australian Ricciardo as one of their drivers.
“We have all the resources we need,” said Brown to the official Formula One website.
“All our CapEx projects are well under way, we’ve got two great drivers who aren’t inexpensive. Myself, Andreas and all of our leadership team have all signed up for the long term.”
“So we have what we need, we are very focused, we have the right people, the right investment, the right shareholders, the right drivers. Now we just need a little bit of time.”
McLaren has the vision regarding the changes they need to implement to become contenders for the World Championships. This involves them to complete their wind tunnel and simulator.
“We want to keep going forward. I think we are now playing, on an annual basis, on a level playing field, but we still have technology infrastructure we are catching up on,” said Brown.
On being asked about the progress of the mentioned wind tunnel and simulator, Brown answered that it is still under a lot of heavy construction and that they’re yet to complete it, so they don’t really have all the parts to begin with as of now.
“So I think until we have those, we have a little bit of an infrastructure technical deficit and all you have to be off is this much (depicts a small amount) to take yourself out of World Championship contention.”
“I think realistically coming in here, and what we do every year, is we are just trying to get better every year and then hopefully in not too long we can have expectations of trying to fight for the World Championship,” Brown continued.
Brown also made it a point to talk about the drivers’ mentality and expectations ahead of the 2022 Formula One season. On being asked about Lando Norris who extended his contract with McLaren till 2025, Brown added that, “We are committed to him, he’s committed to us, he’s part of the family. It’s where he’s grown up and I think he’s obviously bought into the journey we are on.”
He concluded it by saying that looks forward to hopefully winning World Championships with the talented 22 year old British driver.
