“We’ve definitely not given up,” George Russell hopeful even after Mercedes slow and tough start to the season

The all-new cars introduced for this season have proven a shake-up in the constructor’s leader board which was one of the main aims and a promise by Formula One at the beginning. With the Eight-time Constructors Champion, Mercedes, not doing well this year, the team has reported to have problems with their machinery after they found that the zero-pod W13 was suffering badly with “porposing.”

Mercedes was forced to raise the car’s ride height, increasing lap time ad costing them downforce. Even though, Lewis Hamilton was able to secure a podium place in the Bahrain GP but in the previous race at the Jeddah Circuit, he was only able to secure P10, with a point. Whereas his teammate, George Russell finished P4 and P5 respectively.

Yet the team has managed to stay above Red Bull with a difference of just one point. Ferrari on the other hand, has been dominating since the beginning this year with both the drivers on the podium in the last season opening races.

With a difference of 40 points between Ferrari and Mercedes, George Russell said, “We are definitely not out of it. But for sure, if we don’t manage to find some improvements there’s no way we’ll be in with a shot of fighting for this championship.” There is still scope for change as it has just been two races and it surely is hard to predict if Ferrari would consistently continue its streak and put forth a tough competition against Red Bull and Mercedes.

“There’s no reason why we can’t overturn it. We need to see how things look by the time we get to halfway through the season. Everything can change.” Said Russell who acknowledges the fact that even though they are third on the leader board, they are way closer to the fourth position than that of the first.

With the Australian GP coming up next week, Russell said that, “We need to make some leaps and bounds. We are struggling to find that silver bullet to resolve our issues, but I’ve no doubt when we do that we will find a chunk of lap time. But that’s easier said than done.” As reported by planetf1.
