The experience of the whole event was built by ChaseJackman, GQuanoe, XWDFr, and YU7A. The creative platform allows players to experience the event and teleports players back to a reimagined version of Washington, D.C., in 1963, the place where Martin Luther King had delivered the memorable speech during the March on Washington. Following these happening that were brought to the light by many concerned netizens, Fortnite made the decision to disable many emotes and the disrespectful ones in particular, which are almost all of the emotes in-game, for the event. A few 8 had been given the exception and have been kept just for the sake of the MLK event.

There were several messages going around Twitter showing players doing very unnecessary and disrespectful emotes in front of the ongoing speech, which was definitely disrespectful, not offensive. Players had even gone to the extent of using racist statements “Thank God, we are free at last”, in front of White and ‘Coloured’ tabs. While it’s clear that the Fortnite community is definitely not ready for educational content in the game, EPIC has chosen the right way by disabling the emotes.
