He won that set and eventually the match with a final scoreline of 6-7(2-7), 7-6(8-6), 6-2. Frances Tiafoe, who is a close friend of Paul, revealed that he was watching Paul’s match but when his compatriot started to lose, he switched to Netflix.

Braveheart. I messaged him this morning, Braveheart, man. I was watching, he lost the first, he wasn’t playing that great, a little flat. Then I saw he got broken early in the second, and kind of turned it off, so I watched some Netflix. Wake up, like, I doze off, wake up, it’s 6-6 in the breaker, so turn it on.

Frances Tiafoe said at a press conference

Paul’s next opponent is Tomas Machac who defeated Aleksandar Vukic in the previous round. The 11th seed has faced Machac once in the Japan Open and he lost in three sets.
