Francis Ngannou’s next opponent has been presented with a deal, and it’s not who we thought it would be
Francis Ngannou
UFC has been looking for an opponent for newly crowned heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, and Jon Jones was the one fans wanted to see him compete against, but it looks like he is out from the picture.
Due to the payment issues, Jones and UFC couldn’t come to an agreement, and now it has been confirmed that Derrick Lewis will be the next opponent for Ngannou.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani from ESPN, Lewis said, “I don’t even know if I can be talking about all of this. But something’s going to happen. We’re just waiting on Francis. I got the fight, so I’m just really waiting on Francis to pick what date he wants to get in on. They gave him some dates, some months, so we’re just waiting on him to respond.”
“August is looking real good right now, so they’re going to see what it’s like in August for him,” Lewis said.
Lewis and Ngannou has faced each other inside the ring, and it is hard to believe the fight between these two heavy hitters was coined as one of the most boring fight in the division, but both of them have evolved a lot from that fight and Ngannou would be looking to even the score this time.
“Jon Jones is out of the picture,” Derrick Lewis revealed
Jon Jones has been fighting to get the money he thinks he deserves for the fight against Francis Ngannou, according to Dana White Jones wants $30 million upfront for this fight along with pay-per-view shares, but Jones has denied any such claims.
It looks like UFC isn’t planning on waiting around for Jones, and it must be really depressing for him considering that he vacated his light-heavyweight title just to make this fight happen. According to Derrick Lewis Jon Jones is out of the title picture for right now, but might see him compete against the champion sometime in the future.
