Day 8 of French Open 2020 was filled with surprises and shocks. However, the Argentine Diego Schwartzman did not upset. The 12th seed made his way to the quarterfinals of the French Open after defeating Italian Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets.

The Italian Open 2020 runner up has enjoyed a phenomenal ride at the slam as he dropped no sets en route to the final 8 of the French Open 2020.

A successful run for Italian Open runner-up

Diego Schwartzman and Lorenzo Sonego contested just over three games of play before rain interrupted their fourth-round encounter. When both players returned to Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Schwartzman dominated play to race through eight consecutive games.

The Argentine dominated with his effective returns and moved across the court easily. Sonego made constant errors and lost points in extended rallies. Digo was able to lead 6-1, 4-0 advantage. Schwartzman was broken in the third set but recovered. Diego went ahead to win three straight games from 3-4 down to improve to 19-9 in 2020.

The 12th seed converted his first match point when Sonego failed to control a deep Schwartzman backhand return. Just under three hours, Schwartzman won his round of 16 match 6-1,6-3,6-4. He will face Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals.
