French Open 2020: Legal trouble as Dzumhur and coach sue RG organisers over COVID-19 test
French Open took the exhausting task of conducting the slam amidst the pandemic. There were necessary precautions in place for the players, yet suspiciously few names went missing from the draw.
Now, Damir Dzumhur has come forth to take legal action against the organizers for a false test of COVID-19. The player was restricted from entering the qualification round, after his coach Petar Popovic tested positive for the virus.
French tennis federation denies a second test
The coach of Damir Dzumhur is furious over the disqualification. He claims he had already contracted the virus earlier this year and was “full of antibodies.”
In a recent conversation with L’Equipe, coach Petar Popovic has made it clear that the duo will handle things legally.
”It’s a scandal and a huge frustration,” Popovic said. “I’m sure we’re going to win in court. They’re going to pay a lot for this. It makes me crazy,” he added.
The French Open had discreetly removed a few players out from the draw. Clearly, this disqualification was due to the suspected cases of the virus. The tournament is in the qualifier stage at present as the main draw rounds are yet to commence.
The FFT claims that 5,000 spectators are allowed on the premises. However, FFT previously said the claycourt slam will allow more than 10,000 people each day. Clearly the sudden setback for the FFT has made them cynical to allow more people.
