The second day at the French Open saw the GOAT playing her opening round. Elina Svitolina also made a comeback to the slam after skipping the US Open. They won their respective French Open ties while Madison Keys was stunned by Shuai Zhang.

Serena shines in Round 10

Serena Williams has won her opening match on Day 2. She won the match against Kristine Ahn 7-6(2), 6-0. The GOAT is chasing her 24th slam. The sixth seed in the draw was looking shaky in Set 1 but in the second set, she sealed the set 6-0. Serena will face now Tsvetana Pironkova, an opponent she defeated at US Open 2020.

Kiki Bertens needed a comeback

Kiki Bertens narrowly missed the exit in Round 1. Up against Katarina Zavatska, Bertens lost the opening Round 2-6. She came back strong and won 6-2, 6-0 in the next sets. Bertens lost to Ostapenko in the last tournament and is struggling to find a rhythm. She will need to work hard to survive on clay.

Elina Svitolina cruises to Round 2

Elina Svitolina, Varvara Gracheva

Elina Svitolina is enjoying her success and has the 5th rank in the world. She began the first set with some doubts playing a slam in a long time. Yet she won against Varvara Gracheva 7-6(2), 6-4. Elina Svitolina is now up against Renata Zarazúa.

Petra Kvitova wins her match at Philip Chartier

The World No. 2 earned her spot to play at the revamped Philip Chartier court. Petra’s 6-3, 7-5 win over Dodin was the icing on the cake for her. She needed to dig deep in set 2 as Oceane Dodin tried to win the set. Kvitova has dropped in rankings and will be looking forward to earn more points.

Madison Keys bows out

Shuai Zhang shocked the American Madison Keys winning 6-3, 7-6(2). Madison was the semifinalist in 2018 & quarterfinalist in 2019. Zhang now makes the second round – will face Cornet or Paquet. This was the biggest shocker in the women’s draw. The 12 seed Madison Keys and Shui Zhang’s match proved to garner much attention, as it was supposed to be an easy match for Keys.
