Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jesper De Jong: Match Preview
World No.3 Alcaraz is just returning from a forearm injury that has forced him to miss the Monte Carlo, Barcelona, and Rome Masters. Even though he played at the Madrid Open, the 21-year-old made sure not to swing all out. But, at the Roland Garros, he looks fresh and bright. Before arriving in Paris, he last competed in Madrid, reaching the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.
De Jong season hasn’t gone as planned. After finishing the 2023 season at World 153, the Dutchman has slipped to No.177 in the ATP rankings. At the Australian Open in January, he earned his biggest victory after beating Argentine Pedro Cachin in the first round as a qualifier. He was only stopped by Jannik Sinner in the next round. Since then he has struggled to make any meaningful impact in the ATP Challengers, reaching only the quarterfinals twice.
This will be the first time De Jong and Alcaraz will meet on the court. Alcaraz’s record this season remains 19-5 while De Jong is 21-13.
