Although Carlos Alcaraz received a walkover from Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinal of the French Open, he had to toil to even the score after losing the first set. In the second semifinal of Friday (June 6), Jannik Sinner outlasted Novak Djokovic in a thriller straight-set battle to secure a berth in the French Open final for the first time in his career.
Sinner, for the first time, played a tie-breaker in the tournament. The match wasn’t a walk in the park for the Italian like his previous four matches where he bagel’d three opponents.
Now it’s time for the dream championship match. The two youngsters will be meeting for the first time in a Grand Slam final.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Preview
Carlos Alcaraz started the season at the Australian Open in his bid to become the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam. But Novak Djokovic ended his campaign with a four-set win in the quarterfinals.

After winning his career’s first indoor hard-court title at the Rotterdam Open, Alcaraz entered the clay swing without a Sunshine Double title under his belt for the first time since 2021 as after losing the Qatar Open quarterfinal, he failed to defend his Indian Wells title due to defeat in the semifinal before he was stunned in his opening round of the Miami Open.
Alcaraz then started his campaign on the European clay swing and progressed to every final of the tournaments he played, winning two. He beat Lorenzo Musetti to clinch his career’s first Monte Carlo Masters title, before losing the Barcelona Open final to Holger Rune.
The 22-year-old skipped the Madrid Open because of an injury, before scheduling a clash with Jannik Sinner in the Italian Open final. So far in the French Open, the defending champion has dropped a set four times against four different opponents.
Sinner too, kick-started his campaign for the 2025 season at the Australian Open and beat Alexander Zverev to defend his crown. He was then handed a three-month suspension by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) which forced him to miss several Masters 1000 tournaments among other ATP 500 ones. After serving his ban, Sinner did not show any signs of rust as with dominating performances, he reached the Italian Open final only for Alcaraz to end his 26-match winning streak.
Carlos Alcaraz vs. Jannik Sinner: Match Prediction
Even though it’s tough to write off Sinner in the French final because of his tremendous improvement on the surface, against Alcaraz, he has suffered. In the Italian Open, he produced a strong performance but in the final, after a tight first set, all he could win was one game in the second.

The Spaniard also holds a 7-4 head-to-head record over the three-time Major champion, winning four consecutive matches, including thrice last year. Sinner, the most successful player on the ATP tour last season, had a 73-6 win-loss record and three of those defeats were from Alcaraz.
One of those three defeats that Sinner was handed was in the 2024 French Open semifinal after a tough five-setter. Alcaraz then reached the final to play another five-setter, this time, against Zverev to clinch his career’s first French Open title.
Match prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in five sets.
