- Aryna Sabalenka and Naomi Osaka will face off in the fourth round of the French Open on June 1, 2026.
- Sabalenka has not dropped a set in the tournament and leads their head-to-head record 2-1 this year.
- Osaka has shown improvement on clay, reaching the fourth round in three consecutive tournaments despite previous struggles.
Aryna Sabalenka is in the fourth round of the French Open for the fourth consecutive year on tour. The last time she didn’t reach that stage of the tournament was in 2022, when she crashed out in the third round. She’s yet to drop a set at Roland Garros, but will face a tough task when she goes up against an in-form Naomi Osaka at the Court Philippe-Chatrier.
Osaka is not known to play her best tennis on clay, but for the first time in many years, she has reached the fourth round of three consecutive clay-court tour-level tournaments. That may look like a little progress, but it’s enough to boost her confidence on the court. She has not beaten Sabalenka this year despite facing her twice already.

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Naomi Osaka: Match Preview
Aryna Sabalenka kicked off the 2026 season with a thumping victory at the Brisbane International and followed it up with a runner-up finish at the Australian Open. After a month away from tour, she completed the Sunshine Double, winning the Indian Wells and Miami Open excellently.
Sabalenka has not been in her best form on clay this season. She has only won seven matches on the red dirt this year. The 28-year-old arrived at the French Open with a bid to win the title and began her campaign with a straight-sets victory over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Elsa Jacquemot. She delivered a commanding 6-0, 7-5 victory over Daria Kasatkina in the third round on Saturday (May 30).

On the other hand, Naomi Osaka began the 2026 season poorly, pulling out of the Australian Open in the third round due to injury. But after consecutive early exits at Indian Wells and Miami, she revealed that she could retire if she doesn’t reach the later stages of tournaments. But changed her mind during the clay season.
At the Madrid Open and Italian Open, she reached the fourth round, losing to Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, respectively. In Paris, she defeated Laura Siegemund in straight sets in the first round before beating Donna Vekic 7-6(1), 6-4. In the third round, she fended off 17th seed Iva Jovic 7-6(5), 6(3)-7, 6-4.
Aryna Sabalenka vs. Naomi Osaka: Match Prediction
Aryna Sabalenka, who has been in celebratory mode in Paris, has yet to win the French Open in her career. The closest she got to winning the championship was last year when she finished as runner-up after losing to Coco Gauff in three sets. She won her fourth Grand Slam at the US Open last year, her only major tournament victory in 2025.

Sabalenka leads Osaka 2-1 in their head-to-head record, with Osaka’s wins coming this year. The Belarusian star got the better of the Japanese player at Indian Wells in March and again at the Madrid Open last month. However, Sabalenka has won four Grand Slams, the last of which came at the 2021 US Open.
She did not play for 14 months around the birth of her daughter, Shai, in July 2023. She returned to the court in 2024, but was strong and led with form. In the second half of the last season, she found a bit of rhythm on the court, reaching the semi-finals of the US Open. She will be banking on her experience in Grand Slam stages to get over Sabalenka, which will be a boost for her at the event.
Match Prediction: Aryna Sabalenka to win in three sets.
