French Open 2020: Victory for Djokovic, Tsitsipas, Dimitrov as Shapovalov crashes out
The French Open 2020 day 5 saw World No.1 in action as the Serbian had an easy outing winning the match in three straight sets. Also, top players like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Grigor Dimitrov reached round 3 of Roland Garros too.
A major setback came from the Canadian Denis Shapovalov who lost on day 5. Jann Lennard Struff, the 30th seed also lost his match becoming the second seeded player to crash on day 5.
Novak strides ahead
Novak Djokovic won against Ricardas Berankis 6-1 6-2 6-2. Novak won his 70th match at Roland Garros while in the pursuit of his 18th Grand slam. The Serbian is next up against Daniel Elan Galan. Djokovic sealed a quick victory and gave only a total of 5 games to his opponent in the three sets. Novak has been phenomenal and should make it to the final.
Stefanos Tsitispas wins in 3 sets
After playing a tough opening match, Stefanos Tsitsipas won is round 2 match in straight sets. In a quick victory over Pablo Cuevas 6-1 6-4 6-2, Tsitsipas won to make it to the third round. The match on day 5 was much different as Tsitsipas looked very focused. He broke 6 times while being broken once. Stefanos won 88% of 1st serve points and 70% on the second serve.
Dimitrov reaches his round 3 for fourth straight time
Grigor Dimitrov has recently made a comeback. After skipping US Open 2020 Dimitrov joined the tour post the hard court season. Dimitrov won against Andrej Martin 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-1. The Bulgaria had to face a tie break in set two before sealing the final set.
Denis Shapovalov crashes out
US Open 2020 semi-finalist Denis Shapovalov entered the French Open as a favourite. Following his success at the hard court, fans wnted him to perform even better at French Open. Shapovalov struggled but lost to Roberto Carballes. With 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-3, 3-6, 8-6 in 5 hours, Carballes made is set to make his first appearance in round 3 French Open.
