50-0 undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a lot of things. Boxing promoter, businessman, and owner of his own celebrity liquor brand included. However, one thing he has been most of all recently is an instigator. Now, ‘Money’ is up and about getting into the business of former protégé Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis yet again. It also involves Devin Haney for a change.
Following Davis’ impressive KO win over Frank “The Ghost” Martin, Mayweather released a six-year-old sparring tape between him and Devin Haney. There have been salient clips and snippets before; now, FightHype has released the full clip. An 18-year-old Haney keeps a good fade for six rounds and 20mins against ‘Tank.’ More to it, the footage shows Davis distracted yet connecting with punches across.
It’s anyone’s guess as to the point of it all. Davis defended his WBA Lightweight gold against Martin this weekend. The slim and slick pro-boxer KO’ed Martin with a vicious left overhand at the 1:29 mark of R8. Before this, though, he fired back at Mayweather for propagating that his fight was off. Now, ‘Money’ fired back.
Floyd helped mold ‘Tank’ into a star on Mayweather Productions cards. During his Showtime pay-per-view clash against Hector Luis Garcia, he, however, mentioned leaving for Al Haymon‘s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC). The Amazon Prime-PBC partnership recently featured the Gervonta Davis vs. Martin scrap successfully. Nevertheless, Mayweather might just be pushing for a Haney-Davis fight after all.
Tank Davis Ready For Vasiliy Lomachenko or Ryan Garcia Clash after KO win
WBA ‘regular’ lightweight titleholder and all-time standout Gervonta Davis snagged quite a victory. After his eighth-round KO win over Martin at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, he should be the talk of the town. Yet, eyes are on Devin Haney and a prospective clash with ‘Tank’ ever happening. Why? Because Floyd Mayweather chose to make it so.
Through FightHype.com, Mayweather released unseen footage that proved previous iterations were fake. The 20-minute scrap between ‘Tank’ and Haney does not make Davis weaker. If anything, he was disinterested and gassed out. Plus, a teenage Haney opted for some backhand blows. The footage has, however, opened up a conversation about them fighting next. Davis has his eyes elsewhere.
For sure, yeah, for sure… I’m willing to fight all of them. My prediction [for Lomachenko]? A** whooping time… Ryan? He’s crazy… He was talking about a rematch. He said I was the best at 135 and 140, too.Gervonta Davis in his post-fight conference interviews
Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) is warming up for a potential unification bout against the 36-year-old IBF lightweight Vasiliy Lomachenko at year-end. PBC would target November for the matter. Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia is up for a rematch as well.
Garcia has mentioned hedging around 147 pounds now. If the Baltimore native invokes a rehydration clause yet again, ‘King Ry’ might not be so willing to shift down to 140-pounder cut limits. Catchweight could look promising.
There’s also the fact that Garcia could be suspended for the rest of the year for alleged PED usage. Tank’s management might yet find this matchup the most lucrative, though. Other than Lomachenko or Ryan Garcia, Davis has shown no interest in Haney or anyone else.
