Anthony Davis drops the microphone and storms out of press conference after asked about Jamal Murray's game winner

Anthony Davis had the most miserable last 5 seconds of the game of any Los Angeles Lakers player. After all, he defended against Jamal Murray‘s buzzer-beating game-winner. He also was the recipient of some humiliation as he landed on the Nuggets bench while trying to stop Murray from scoring. All of this had taken a toll on the big man as he furiously dropped the mic and stormed out of the press conference.

Every top player has to go through the post-game press conference as mandated by the NBA. Therefore, no matter how hard the loss was, one has to answer questions from the media. Anthony Davis was asked a series of questions, which he answered despite looking gloomy. Towards the end, a reporter asked him about the last play as to whether he was impeded by anything as he was unable to stop the shot.

He dropped the mic as he stormed off the podium. Visibly furious at the question, as it was questioning his ability to stop Jamal Murray.

It might mean that Davis was unhappy with himself as he could have stopped the much smaller Murray. He even knew that the question was rhetoric, as nothing had impeded him while he was guarding the Nuggets star guard. Davis just could not position himself properly to stop the buzzer beater.

Davis ended up on the Denver Nuggets bench after leaping to try and stop the shot. Only to watch the Denver Nuggets players celebrating right in front of him. Both situations could have dealt a mental blow leading to that furious exit.

Anthony Davis could get blowback after talking about DPOY exclusion

Anthony Davis headed into the playoffs talking about the Defensive Player of the Year award. His position was that he could never win one despite being one of the best defenders in the league. He felt that his contributions on defense have been overlooked as he does not have the stats to push him up the list. He even suggested that he can defend all 5 positions, especially the Pick and Roll.

However, with the Jamal Murray shot, the Los Angeles Lakers big man might have to swallow his own words. After all, a player half a foot shorter and with a smaller wingspan managed to score the buzzer beating the game-winner over Davis. The former Kentucky Wildcats standout might have been embarrassed about this.

It could also be the reason why he stormed out of the press conference. After all, he is the last person who would want to answer the question about Murray’s shot, especially now that they go home trailing 0-2.
