Gareth Southgate took charge of The Three Lions back in November 2016. The former England international and head coach is currently heading to his 4th major tournament as manager and despite having one of the most stacked squads in all of Europe, has no trophy cabinet to show for!
England are undoubtedly one of the biggest favorites for the upcoming Euros alongside France. In a recent interaction with the press, Southgate admitted that his days as England boss will be numbered, if he fails to bring home the trophy next month.
If we don't win, I probably won't be here anymore. It might be the last chance. I've been here for eight years now and we've come close.Gareth Southgate told BILD
England were eliminated by Croatia in the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and by France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 edition. However, The Three Lions’ most painful result under Southgate was the loss to Italy in the final of the 2021 Euros on penalties.
As they look to bring in some much needed silverware, Southgate knows very well that he’s on his way out if they fail to do so!
Gareth Southgate makes bold claim about Jude Bellingham
No team in the world would want Jude Bellingham playing against them. England manager Gareth Southgate is spoiled for choice when it comes to selecting his midfield for the upcoming Euros.
From Bellingham to Declan Rice and Kobbie Mainoo, talent will not be an issue for The Three Lions at the tournament. However, Southgate has stressed that the team will not be reliant on one particular player, be it Bellingham himself. However, Southgate steered clear of the assumption that Bellingham will be the player that finally helps them claim a title.
We're not going to put everything on Jude. We've got many players and it's a collective effort to go and win this tournament. If we're going to rely on one person, then this isn't going to be a squad that wins.Gareth Southgate said in a press conference
The Real Madrid star put up impressive numbers for the club, all while winning the La Liga and UEFA Champions League. England have their opener against Serbia on the 17th of June.
