The Boston Bruins’ game on Sunday was a massive one for the team. The team celebrated their centennial anniversary before they took on their longtime rivals, the Montreal Canadiens. Several Bruins legends were present at the TD Garden for this celebration.
Commissioner Gary Bettman was also there who later went on to hail the team. The Bruins who were founded in 1924, are the oldest American team in the NHL. As for the league, they are the third oldest after the Canadiens (founded in 1909) and the Toronto Maple Leafs (founded in 1917).
In the pregame ceremony, Captain Brad Marchand joined former players and family members of late stars from five different eras. The Early Years (1924-70), Big, Bad Bruins (1970-85), Lunch Pail A.C. (1977-85) New Blood New Beginnings (1985-2000), and Return of a Champion (2001 to present) were the five different eras.
The stars were later joined by youngsters representing the next generation. The Bruins legends would pass the puck to them, signaling the passing of a torch.

On this celebratory day, the Bruins ran away as 6-3 winners against the Canadiens. Charlie McAvoy and Charlie Coyle both scored twice each as the team claimed an emphatic victory over their longtime rivals.
Gary Bettman claims league has not yet discussed about salary cap for next year
During Gary Bettman‘s appearance at the TD Garden for the Boston Bruins’s centennial game, the commissioner of the NHL was asked about the salary cap. The 72-year-old claimed that the league has not discussed the salary cap yet for next year.
Last year, the salary cap saw an increase of more than $4 million. As of now, the NHL has a salary cap of $88 million. There have been speculations that this figure could rise up to $92.5 million for the following year. However, Commissioner Bettman has claimed that those numbers were not definite.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said that the league hasn't talked numbers for how much the cap will go up next year: "We haven't had those discussions yet at all."

And when it comes to if the cap will raise a significant amount he said: "I like smooth and steady." pic.twitter.com/qOretGl0C6
The salary cap in the NHL had no changes from the 2019-20 to 2021-22 season. After that, it saw an increase of one million per season. With last season’s hike of $4 million, there are chances that the limit could see a $5 million increase for the next year.
