Gary Lineker’s heartfelt tweet draws ire from fans across the world- proving that people can and will get offended over everything
The two have nothing but respect for each other, as evidenced by their interactions with each other

Gary Lineker and Diego Maradona seem to be friends atleast. The two of them were part of one of the most famous matches in the history of football when Argentina defeated England 2-1. While Diego Maradona scored the goal of the century then, it was overshadowed by his equally (in)famous ‘Hand of God’ goal.

A sore point, but a point forgotten

Many English fans felt that they were robbed when Maradona’s goal went over Peter Shilton by using his hand. However it must be noted that the things happened so fast and there was no technology to properly ascertain what exactly happened then. Only the admittance of Diego Maradona meant that the goal should have been ruled out. However he seems to relish the controversy and attention that his goal still gets from young fans.

BBC pundit Gary Lineker paid his tributes through just like many other people had, but he found himself drawing the ire of many people. He simply tweeted a line where he hoped for him to find some comfort in the ‘hands of God’ after his ‘blessed but troubled life’. There is nothing malicious or restrained in this tribute, and yet people found ways to get offended with this. Gary Lineker found himself defending his morality from people who abused him and this just goes to show how narrow-minded people are.

It must be noted that publicly there is no bad blood between Gary Lineker and Diego Maradona. In a 2006 BBC documentary, Gary Lineker met up with Maradona when the 2006 World Cup was happening. There they embraced, joked about the Hand of God goal and promised to see each other later and catch up.

Gary Lineker has shown himself to be a dignified man with occasional lapses of biased criticizing, but even he wouldn’t stoop to this level of infamy.
