“They won’t be available for the Netherlands series” – New Zealand coach Gary Stead confirms the availability of players for IPL 2022

There was a doubt of the availability of Kiwi players in the IPL 2022 as the upcoming series between New Zealand and Netherlands will be clashing with the initial stages of IPL. But New Zealand’s head coach Gary Stead has confirmed the participation of IPL associated players in the IPL 2022, which will kick off on March 26.

12 Kiwi players have bagged the IPL 2022 contracts. Kane Williamson, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, James Neesham, Trent Boult, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Daryl Mitchell, Finn Allen, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert and Adam Milne will feature in the tournament. They won’t be playing the series against the Netherlands.

“They won’t be available for that (Netherlands) series. I think it’s always exciting as a coach when you know that several players build the depth of the squad and that leads to the big picture of leading it to the World Cup in the future.” Said Gary Stead in a press conference.

There’ll be a tight crossover, but they are used to it, says Gary Stead. He had also wished for the participation of these Kiwi players in the Test series against England, which will start from June 2. He thinks after playing IPL, this series will be a tight crossover.

“It will be a tight crossover. If it is that tight it’s not ideal, but it is what it is, the guys are used to it. They’re used to adjusting to different formats quickly, so it will be the same situation.

“I think there’d still arrive there on 30th of May or the day after, and they’ve still got three or four days. I think players will be available coming from the IPL final.”

Many other international players will miss the initial stages of IPL 2022 due to their national duty. Australia is now playing with Pakistan, will miss the same. IPL 2022 will be played from March 26 to May 29 in the Maharashtra state only due to Covid.
