- The Las Vegas Raiders released quarterback Geno Smith after a disappointing season.
- Wendy's offered Smith a job as Chief Tasting Officer following his release.
- Smith responded critically to Wendy's offer, highlighting their recent sales decline.
The Las Vegas Raiders have decided to move on from starting quarterback Geno Smith after one torrid season, marked by poor performances that led the franchise to finish dead last in the league.
The flip side of falling to the bottom means they do have a silver lining in the form of the No. 1 overall pick. With college football champion and Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza in the running, it seems the Raiders felt it was time to let go of their veteran QB.
It seems the $18.5 million in dead money they have to take on did not bother them as much as saving $8 million in cap space, which they could use to sign players for other positions.
A few hours after this news broke on the social media platform X, it caught the attention of the international burger chain Wendy’s, which replied to ESPN’s post with these words:
Geno Smith, in case things don’t work out in free agency, we’re looking for a Chief Tasting Officer…

The $5.2 billion fast-food chain was essentially offering a job that they had just rolled out. They would pay $100,000 to someone willing to go to their local Wendy’s, eat their food to confirm it meets their standards, and promote their activities.
Get ya cheese up 1st.

This was Geno Smith‘s response while adding a screenshot of Wendy’s recent sales plunge, suggesting that the company needed to up its effort before being eligible to offer him a job. On top of that, he also added Bronny James‘ famous, ‘Your chain fake‘ GIF to further troll the company.
Geno Smith continues his attack on Wendy’s
Smith is known to be one of the most beloved athletes in the NFL. His rise from obscurity to become a two-time Pro Bowler is well-documented.

For such a soft-spoken person, it seems Wendy’s hit him hard, as the former Raider did not stop his backhanded shots at them after their job offer post.
Out here selling poison, trying to get jokes off on Twitter. Society in shambles.

These posts went viral, racking up millions of views within a short time, as it became evident that both Wendy’s fumbled, offering a $100,000 job to a professional athlete who has earned millions in his long NFL career.

On the other hand, many felt the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year was seemingly hurt by the burger chain’s attempt to ridicule his career and his job prospects.
After throwing a league-high 17 interceptions last season, there are question marks about Geno Smith’s ability to find a starting quarterback job on any team in the league.
Geno Smith might not have many options next season
When the Las Vegas Raiders offered Geno Smith a two-year, $75 million contract extension, franchise fans felt he could continue his resurgence from being a career backup QB. Now, after a year, it seems he is destined to return to that role.
He is looking at the Jets or Dolphins at best if he wants to start.
Kevin Clark said on NFL Live
The rest of the cast of NFL Live tended to agree with this logic, as no team would be willing to hand the 13-year veteran a starting job unless they were intentionally tanking in order to select a quarterback in the future.

It seems Smith will either have to choose that role, or he could join one of the other teams looking for an experienced backup. The Florida native could become a great teacher for young quarterbacks.
