Ever since Russell Wilson became the starter, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been on a roll, winning four games in a row. But in that last win against the rival Baltimore Ravens, Wilson and the offense featuring star wideout George Pickens struggled. Those struggles showed their ugly side in their latest loss to the Cleveland Browns.
In their win against the Ravens, Russell Wilson threw one interception and zero touchdowns. Understandably the game was decided by both defenses, but even then, the Steelers inability to reach the red zone let alone convert was a problem all game.
In the loss to the Browns, Wilson threw one touchdown and put up some yards as he spread the ball. But even then, the likes of Pickens and their stars on the offensive end could not move the needle. That makes it back-to-back struggles for the Pittsburgh Steelers against elite defenses.
This has become a topic of discussion as former players have talked about how putrid the offense has looked. Reporters aware of this discussion landed inside the Steelers locker room and prodded George Pickens for an answer.
That ode to Marshawn Lynch was probably what he thought was the best way to avoid answering questions about their offense. Considering that it has become very clear that the defense and special teams are pulling the team through, the criticism has fallen squarely on the offense.

This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a chance at working through their pains and making something happen. They are not facing an elite defense in the form of the AFC North rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals. However, it is easier said than done if they themselves are not clicking.
George Pickens and Russell Wilson will have to put on a show against the Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals may not possess the most frightening defense in the NFL, but they sure do have one of the best offensive groups in the league. That group led QB Joe Burrow and elite wideouts Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are a handful for anyone.
Their collective impact is such that in seven of their eleven games so far, they have managed to score 25 or more points. It is not that the TJ Watt led vaunted Steelers defense will have a problem handling that. It will be a problem though if Russell Wilson and George Pickens cannot respond pound for pound.
The Steelers have scored 25 or more points against average to bad defenses. If anything, that could give them hope that they could do something against the leaking Bengals. But even then, as the reporters wanted to know, the primary question is have the Steelers worked on improving their red zone offense.
