The 2026-27 campaign marks the beginning of a new era for the Miami Heat with Giannis Antetokounmpo at the helm. They have gotten off to a horrendous start considering all the hype and expectations before the season got underway.
Heading into their Monday night clash against the Dallas Mavericks, the pressure was building on the Heat after losing their first three games of the regular season. To make matters worse, the search for their first win of the season continues.
The Heat dropped their fourth game in a row and their third straight at home. After a neck-and-neck battle in the first three quarters, the Mavs took over when it mattered the most and clinched a 113-109 victory at the Kaseya Center.
After a 0-4 start to the season, Giannis Antetokounmpo remained confident and saw no reason to hit the panic button.
I said what need to be said to the media like we all have to take a deep breath and eventually we’re going to figure it out, we cannot press the panic button. I’ve been in this position before. I lost 5 in a row, I lost 7 in a row. I don’t like this feeling, the moment we turn this around, I’m going to always remember this feeling and I’m going try to not get back to this feeling.

I’ve been in this position before — I lost 5 in a row, I lost 7 in a row…I don’t like this feeling, the moment we turn this around — I’m going to always remember this feeling and I’m going try to not get back to this feeling.” (@Brendan_Tobin YT)

After disappointing ends to their last two seasons, the Heat made a blockbuster trade by trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in the summer. The acquisition brought a former champion and one of the league’s best players.
They went on to make a few more changes as they built their roster around Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. However, their new-look roster has received mixed reactions. While some view them as championship contenders, some have expressed skepticism. For now, the latter seem to be on the right side.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is still figuring out his new team and teammates
There is little to no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo is still one of the best players in the league today. Since winning the championship in 2021, he has struggled to make any meaningful run in the postseason.
Hence, a rejuvenated Antetokounmpo and a new environment led many to believe that the Heat can rise to the top of the Eastern Conference once again. However, a 0-4 start has set off alarm bells among fans.
Playing on a new team for the first time in his career, the Greek freak is still figuring out his new teammates.
I’m trying. I’m trying to figure it out but I gotta figure it out aggressively — I think that’s the only way. Hopefully everyone has the same mindset, not just offense — F*** offense, defense we have to be better…once we start doing that more — our offense becomes easier.

This isn’t the start Antetokounmpo and the Heat were looking for. A 0-4 record creates urgency regardless of how much season remains. But for now, the two-time MVP sees no reason to hit the panic button.
Giannis Antetokounmpo still searching for his first win after a triple-double performance
When Giannis Antetokounmpo joined the Heat, it saw him join forces with Bam Adebayo in the frontcourt. With the two big men, the Heat were expected to be a defensive juggernaut. However, that has been far from the case in their first four games.

But if they have to take anything positive from their dismal start to the campaign, it’s their star player’s performances. He recorded his first triple-double of the season on Monday night as he ended with 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists in 39 minutes. He is currently averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and five assists.
The excitement surrounding the franchise was sky-high before their 2026-27 campaign got underway. However, their winless start has given them a jarring reality check.
There are still 78 games to go in the regular season. The Heat will be expected to show improvements as the season progresses. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been through rough stretches in his career and if anyone can turn it around, it is the 31-year-old.
