Giannis Antetokounmpo attempts to acquire a rare trade card of the Team USA avengers trio
The Avengers trio of LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant were the core of Team USA at the just concluded Olympic Games where they led the USA to a historic fifth consecutive gold medal. In what appeared as the trio’s last dance with the national team, trading cards company Topps released a rare triple-autographed trading card to celebrate the unrivaled greatness of the legends.
As a result, it instantly started a bidding war and caught the attention of newly wedded former league MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, who initially offered $150,000 to obtain the card. That move subsequently led a collector to increase the offer to $250,000 and in a show of force and immense wealth, the Greek Freak offered to double the amount paid by anyone who got the card, at the time, the highest bidder was for $500,000.
There’s no argument whatsoever, the Milwaukee Bucks superstar can afford cards like that as his latest contract with the Bucks makes him one of the highest-earning players in the league. And a rare card like that would surely appreciate in value over time.
However, it isn’t the first time six figures have been flying around for the purchase of rare cards, as Grant Williams had voiced his desire to ask Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic to buy a rare card of himself for an equally outrageous amount. Furthermore, it was later revealed that the Bucks’ star may not have been interested in the purchase as he took his comments down.
Paul Pierce floats Giannis Antetokounmpo trade to revive Warriors’ contention hopes
The Golden State Warriors had a season to forget. After they got eliminated in the play-in tournament it was obvious that they needed fresh energy during the new season and so far have failed to acquire a high-level second option for Stephen Curry this offseason as they missed out on Paul George and Lauri Markkanen. This led NBA and Celtics legend Paul Pierce on an episode of KG Certified to propose a potential solution that involves trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The only way I see Golden State getting back to where they need to get back to is if they can find a way to get Giannis over there.Paul Pierce said
When Pierce suggested it, it immediately took Kevin Garnett by surprise as he wondered if Pierce had inside information. However, Pierce clarified that it was just his opinion on how the Warriors can re-establish themselves as contenders.
The Warriors now have to deal with the departure of Thompson and veteran Paul George and hope that the young backbone of Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga will be sufficient. They start the season with an away game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
