The new season will be Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 12th season with the Milwaukee Bucks, as he has played his entire career with the team since being drafted in 2013. The two-time MVP finished last season in a fiery level of form and has set his eyes on an even bigger one.

In an interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio, Giannis Antetokounmpo communicated his sights on one specific goal. One would agree that over the last two seasons, while he consistently ranked among the top ten players in the league, he struggled to maintain his health. Antetokounmpo knows that too well.

It’s kind of frustrating because I’m a competitor… My goal for this year is to stay healthy. I have no other goal.

Giannis Antetokounmpo said

Last year, his injury woes saw him miss a key stretch of the playoffs, where the Bucks were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers in the first round after six games. The Bucks are now set to kick off their new season with expectations high for the Greek Freak and the Bucks.

He has led them to eight consecutive playoff appearances and a championship in 2021. His career averages of 23.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

Giannis Antetokounmpo acknowledges championship pressure as Bucks enter critical season

Giannis Antetokounmpo is well aware of the mounting pressure on the Milwaukee Bucks as they head into the 2024-25 NBA season. In an interview with The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the eight-time All-Star acknowledged the possibility of being traded if the team fails to win a championship this season.

Do you have it in the back of your mind, like, ‘(What) if this year doesn’t go well?’ Yeah, if we don’t win a championship, I might get traded. Yeah, this is the job we live. This is the world we’re living in. It’s everybody.

The Bucks have invested heavily in their roster, with a combined payroll and luxury tax bill of $267.9 million, which has made them one of the most expensive in the league. Given their financial commitment, the stakes are high for the franchise.

Milwaukee’s situation is further complicated by their lack of flexibility in trades, as they are one of four teams over the second apron, which has also limited their options for adjusting the roster. With no first-round draft picks available until 2031 due to recent trades for Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard, the Bucks are essentially locked in with their current lineup.
