The NBA is getting more and more wilder day by day. With surprise signings and trades, the fans have been in shock. One such was when both Klay Thompson and Dan Hurley refused to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. To which former NBA star Gilbert Arenas shared his thoughts about the situation.

Recently on his podcast “Gil’s Arena” Gilbert Arenas discussed both Klay Thompson and Dan Hurley using the Los Angeles Lakers to get a contract somewhere else. Arenas also refused to agree that the Lakers offered them contracts. He stated that both used the Lakers’ name to boost their market value in the free agency market.

We didn't offer nobody no 80 million, dog. Stop listening to Woj and them. We didn't offer him no 80 million. We didn't offer that damn coach no 70 million, man. Y'all crazy. This is crazy talk.

Arenas even stated that this is a common strategy used by players and coaches to boost their market value in an agency. Hurley is the head coach of UConn and was said to be offered a six-year $70 million contract by the Lakers, while Thompson was offered a four-year $80 million contract. Eventually, Thompson decided to sign with the Dallas Mavericks instead of the Lakers.

Arenas’ comments shed light on the complexities and strategies players and teams use for contract discussions. There is also the risk of damaging relationships and reputations in the league. While the Lakers have not made any major moves this offseason, they can still aim to get some good players.

Klay Thompson rejected the Los Angeles Lakers to join the Dallas Mavericks

Klay Thompson has been one of the pillars of the Golden State Warriors Franchise for the last decade. The injuries might have slowed his game but Thompson still was a key contributor for the Warriors last season. The 34-year-old averaged 19.6 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists.

Due to a contract dispute with the Warriors, Thompson made the decision to leave the Bay Area. After Thompson entered the free agency, many teams wanted to sign the star. The Lakers were one of the main teams who were going for Thompson.

Thompson signed a 3-year $50 million deal with the Mavericks. Thompson’s style of ‘catch and shoot’ will be a great fit for Dallas. He is a beloved figure in the league and will add the veteran experience to the team.
