Chennai Super Kings (CSK) really did not expect this in the final. After a series of tight bowling in the previous matches, CSK’s sloppy bowling was exposed again, to their disadvantage of them, in the IPL final against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday (May 29) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In the 17th over, GT batsman Sai Sudharsan made a mockery of Deshpande with back-to-back boundary shots. Sudarsan smacked the first ball over the boundary for a six off the first ball of the 17th over and it was just the start. He followed it with three consecutive boundaries and at the end, Deshpande conceded 20 runs. Sudharsan ended up scoring 96 runs off 47 balls.
Deshpande ended up conceding a whopping 56 runs in four overs without a wicket at an economy rate of 14. He delivered the most expensive spell for the four-time champions. And now, MS Dhoni-led side has to chase a massive 215. How will they chase this target against world-class bowlers like Rashid Khan and Mohammed Shami? GT are heading toward their second IPL trophy? Sure, CSK is under huge pressure but the fans, who did not expect to witness such a horrible show with the ball, came up with memes to slam Deshpande on Twitter.
