Gilles Simon, French tennis player who has been competing on the professional tour since 2002 seems to be quite fascinated with Roger Federer. As stated by him in the past, the Frenchman has immense respect for Federer and he has also revealed that the Swiss maestro’s was his son’s hero.

In a recent interview, Gilles Simon was asked about the playing style of Grigor Dimitrov which involved a question comparing the Bulgarian’s style to Roger Federer’s. The question was whether Dimitrov had limited himself in his career, after trying to replicate Federer to which Simon replied in the affirmative. “Yes, he’s (Grigor Dimitrov) clearly a player who comes close in terms of fluidity of play,” said Simon.

Gilles Simon believes Dimitrov should stop replicating Roger Federer’s playing style

Gilles Simon said that Grigor Dimtrov tried to do things that he could not do, in an attempt to replicate Roger Federer. “In the important moments, it can ‘give up’ because, in reality, it is not entirely in his DNA,” added Gilles Simon.

Gilles Simon stated that the Bulgarian should not try to replicate Federer as it would prove to be futile in the long run. Grigor Dimitrov has shown a lot of promise at times but has failed to make it big at Grandslam events. The most memorable achievement of his tennis career came in 2017, when he won the Nitto ATP Finals, defeating David Goffin in the final. However, he has never been able to stamp his authority at the highest levels of tennis on a consistent basis.
