A few weeks ago, Giovanni Vinci debuted under a new persona on SmackDown. However, the 34-year-old star lost in his return match against Apollo Crews in just three seconds. The decision to embarrass Vinci did not sit well with the majority of the WWE Universe. As such, the company booked a rematch for this week’s SmackDown, with fans expecting him to redeem his loss.
Unfortunately, Vinci once again lost in humiliating fashion against Crews. The only difference from their previous encounter was that it lasted longer. After the Italian star dominated his opponent for a few minutes, the latter reversed a powerbomb into a roll-up to secure the win. An ‘irate’ Vinci unleashed a hellacious post-match attack on Crews. However, the damage had already been done.
Following the baffling call to have him squashed on debut, WrestleVotes reported that key names in creative were unhappy. Therefore, when WWE announced the rematch for last night’s episode, one would’ve assumed it was to rectify the situation.
Giovanni Vinci has not had the best of years in WWE. First, he was unceremoniously kicked out of Imperium after his teammate, Ludwig Kaiser, delivered a brutal beatdown on him. WWE then abruptly shifted him to the blue brand during the Draft.
Vinci would remain absent from television for almost four months before vignettes of his new character began to air. Nonetheless, the former Imperium member will certainly face an uphill battle as he’ll look to remove the stain from the mortifying start to his singles run.
WWE Universe irate after Giovanni Vinci loses again on SmackDown
Needless to say, Giovanni Vinci losing against Apollo Crews ruffled a lot of feathers within the WWE Universe. Some fans were genuinely confused by the ‘story’ that the company is trying to tell. A few users called out Triple H, questioning his booking of the 34-year-old star.
In fact, a fan likened it to when Vince McMahon would embarrass his own talent on national television. Meanwhile, other fans joked that Ludwig Kaiser was the brains behind this decision. Since his loss on debut, fans have speculated that Vinci’s relationship with Kaiser had soured, which not only led to his split from Imperium but also his recent booking.
Although the majority of the fanbase lashed out at Hunter, a few were patient to wait and see how things transpired. Moreover, users even suggested that Vinci would return with a ruthless side to his character soon.
