The hype for the Border-Gavaskar series in Australia at the end of the year has already started. India will travel Down Under to take part in a five-match Test series. The battle between these two superpowers in cricket has always been fascinating to watch and especially during the last few years.
Current players and former cricketers have already joined the chatter regarding the series. Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, has revealed the name of the two Indian cricketers who could be a problem for the Australian team.
Maxwell stated that Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja could turn out to be the two most important cricketers for India and it’s the contest with these two all-rounders which will determine the outcome of the series. He feels that if Australia manage to negate the threat of Ashwin and Jadeja, they will be in a better position in the series.
Ashwin and Jadeja have definitely been the threats for any team with their all-round displays on their home soil. However, it is unlikely that both of them will play together in Australia where there will be very little aid for the spinners. Australia, on the other hand, will hope that the conditions don’t support the traits of Ashwin and Jadeja as it could turn out to be a menace for their side.
India have won the series in the last two tours to Australia
Team India created history in 2018 when they won their first-ever Test series in Australia under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. In 2020-21, against a full strength Aussie side, an Indian side struggling with injuries, loss of main players and having been folded for just 36 in the second innings for the first Test in Adelaide, came back like roaring lions to overthrow a strong Australian team.
Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2014-15. Since then, India have beaten them twice at home and twice on the Australian soil. It remains to be seen if Australia does come back in the upcoming series or if India reigns supreme yet again on Australian turf.
