‘Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell struggling with mental fatigue as he takes indefinite break from cricket amidst poor form

Glenn Maxwell sat out for the match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad. After the match, Maxwell attended the post-match press conference and revealed that he asked to be benched. 

Glenn Maxwell, who has managed only 32 runs in 6 innings, said he asked captain Faf du Plessis to drop him and try someone new. Maxwell claimed that the more he played, the more out of form he would become and hence needed a mental and physical break from the sport.

I felt like I wasn't contributing in a positive way with the bat, and with the results and the position we find ourselves on the table, I think it's a good time to give someone else an opportunity to show their wares, and hopefully, someone can make that spot their own.
Glenn Maxwell said

Maxwell added that he planned his shots well throughout the tournament, but it hadn’t worked at all. In the 6 innings he has played in the 2024 IPL, he was dismissed for three ducks. In their recent loss to Sunrisers, Maxwell was replaced by Will Jacks. 

Sunil Gavaskar gives brutal assessment of Glenn Maxwell

Before RCB’s clash with SRH, Sunil Gavaskar was asked to give his opinion on Glenn Maxwell and his poor form. He noted how the Australian struggled against pace, especially against short deliveries.

Now not much is known on when Maxwell will return. This isn’t the first time he took a break from the sport due to bad form, earlier taking a mental health break in 2019.
