In yet another agenda targeting WWE, Bill Goldberg has stated that the company had his WCW undefeated streak eclipsed by Asuka on purpose.

Bill Goldberg has seemingly renewed his rocky relationship with WWE. In a recent interview with Mike Burke, the 58-year-old suggested that the company’s attitude toward him may still be influenced by the remnants of the bitter rivalry that once defined professional wrestling, the Monday Night Wars. The veteran star hinted that WWE’s decisions involving him were far from accidental.
During the chat, Tulsa-born wrestler recalled his time with WCW during the late 1990s, when the promotion’s flagship show, Monday Nitro, repeatedly outperformed WWE’s Raw in television ratings. The former World Champion believes WWE never fully moved on from that rivalry, even decades after purchasing WCW in 2001.
That being said, ‘The Icon’ is confident that WWE purposely had one of its female talent break his 173-0 undefeated streak. And the talent here in question is none other than Asuka.
Some girl at WWE. They did it on purpose. I have nothing against the girl, by any means, but yeah. I was part of WCW when we were kicking their a*s in the Monday Night Wars…………I think there is always going to be the bird in their a*s that I was part of a company where I was the champion in a very short period of time and we were beating them in the ratings.

Goldberg remained unscathed from September 1997 to December 1998 until meeting his Waterloo against Kevin Nash at WCW Starrcade. The WWE Hall of Famer has alleged that the company made Asuka go on an undefeated streak of her own out of spite toward him. ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ experienced her first loss in WWE after 914 days of her NXT debut at WrestleMania 34 against Charlotte Flair.
Goldberg thinks WWE booked Asuka to surpass his undefeated streak on purpose.

The netizens have already dumped enough on ‘Da Man’ for not even mentioning Asuka by her name. Instead, he subtly disrespected the Japanese wrestling stalwart by referring to her as “some girl at WWE.” His remarks touch on a broader sentiment shared by several ex-WCW names who have claimed that WWE’s creative direction and backstage politics often favored homegrown stars over outsiders from rival promotions.
Why was Goldberg upset with his WWE retirement match?
Goldberg disappeared from WWE after losing clean as a whistle to Roman Reigns in February 2022. It was later revealed that his contract had expired, and the new regime spearheaded by Paul “Triple H” Levesque decided not to renew it. The WCW great would then slam the company’s former head honcho, Vince McMahon, for breaking his promise of bestowing a retirement match on him.

Earlier this year, Goldberg sat down with Ariel Helwani and revealed that McMahon’s son-in-law and incumbent WWE CCO Levesque reached out to him last year, inquiring whether he’d be interested in doing business with WWE or not.
‘Da Man’ was honored to learn that the revamped leadership of the company was planning to set him up for his long-awaited wrestling swansong. It would happen months later in 2025 at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The erstwhile Defensive Tackle for the Atlanta Falcons had the gargantuan task of upsetting Gunther for the World Heavyweight title.
Goldberg went to a training camp to get in shape before the highly anticipated clash so that he could keep up with the menace of ‘The Ring General’. The match rightfully closed out the show in Atlanta on July 12th earlier this year.
With his kith and kin in attendance, ‘Da Man’ went for broke and lasted over 14 minutes before passing out to a resilient Austrian. Goldberg was praised for surprising the fans with the way he wrestled. His family and close friends gathered in the ring afterwards and surrounded ‘The Icon’, who started delivering his farewell speech. But it got cut merely 30 seconds after it began.

The move triggered massive outrage on social media, where the netizens slammed WWE for its disrespectful gesture toward such an instrumental figure in pro wrestling. Some tried defending the company by claiming that since SNME was being broadcast on NBC, it was the network’s decision to take it off the air, as the show had run its course from 8 to 10 pm EST.
"Let's just say I'm pissed off at the way I went out. I put so much into it and I don't feel as though the effort was reciprocated to put a stamp on what I've accomplished.

Goldberg was asked the same by Ariel Helwani in an interview done shortly after his farewell match. The former Universal Champion stated that WWE could’ve planned it out in advance since it’s live television.
Goldberg broached that even the match could’ve lasted longer had WWE prepared for it in a bit more classy fashion. Elaborating on his frustrations with how he went out, ‘Da Man’ said he would’ve loved for WWE to have announced his retirement match in January.
It would’ve allowed the build to happen for months as opposed to what they actually did, which was making him return to WWE programming just three weeks prior to Saturday Night’s Main Event in the most illogical of ways to book a world title match against Gunther.
