At some point this summer, Goldberg will bid adieu to the squared circle. While a date isn’t set in stone, some continue to speculate that WWE would want the legend to bring some more eyeballs to its first-ever two-night SummerSlam. The PLE is slated for MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. If that’s where he might actually end up having his wrestling swansong, the countdown is on.

The former WCW Champion has kicked off the preparations in full swing. He recently took to Instagram and posted a picture from the Black Diamond Martial Arts academy in Texas. The facility specializes in training individuals for MMA, kickboxing, and jiu-jitsu. Goldberg was joined by his son, Gage, and other physical training experts.

Quite recently, the Tulsa native disclosed that he’s undergone stem cell therapy, which has become a go-to treatment for wrestlers in general whenever they experience minor discomforts in several parts of their body. Bill aims to keep a shoulder issue at bay that’s been aching him for long. He might even need a surgery to get over it completely, but doesn’t want to be operated upon before competing in his last match.

The 58-year-old told Ariel Helwani that he hopes to wrestle in the United States to get his family and close relatives in attendance for his retirement. Although he’s grateful for the reception he’s gotten over the years while performing in Saudi Arabia, Goldberg is seemingly against going there for when he steps into the ring next. It’d be interesting to see if WWE grants the icon his wish.

Dolph Ziggler upset about his WWE squash to Goldberg

If one scrolls through the social media handles of Bill Goldberg, he’s been posting a ton of wrestling-related content of late. It only makes sense that the former Universal Champion is reminiscing about the good old days when he used to be an indomitable force between those ropes. But one of them recently saw him getting called out.

Bill posted a clip from SummerSlam 2019 on X where he absolutely steamrolled Nic Nemeth, fka Dolph Ziggler. The WWE HOF’er captioned it in a way that screamed as if The Showoff asked for it. However, Ziggler clapped back at the 58-year-old, jibing that it was rather Bill who demanded the match. Nic also quipped that he feels lucky to have faced Goldberg and not end up in a hospital thereafter.

It’s clear as daylight that Nemeth isn’t proud of that particular moment in his WWE career. The former TNA World Champion was picked to job to a veteran by the WWE management to allegedly make Bill look good on television. The match, which lasted under two minutes, was Goldberg’s first since a botch-infested affair with The Undertaker at Super Showdown.

How did Goldberg have his WWE farewell match materialize?

After losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in 2022, The Icon was relegated to the sidelines. His WWE contract eventually expired in March 2023. It was months after Vince McMahon‘s hush money allegations were first made public. Consequently, the 79-year-old stepped down as the WWE CEO and Chairman.

McMahon’s son-in-law, Triple H, succeeded him as the creative lead of WWE. However, uninitiated by the structural changes within the company back then, Goldberg blasted Vince for not keeping his promise of a retirement match. The former defense tackle for the Falcons revealed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that The Game voluntarily reached out to him.

The 14-time World Champion gave the WCW original his due respect and offered him a retirement match that Goldberg always felt he was owed. Last year at Bad Blood, Da Man was involved in a heated segment with Gunther. It was believed to kickstart a rivalry between the two, but nothing ever came out of it. At this point, there’s no word on Goldberg’s potential last match opponent.
