“A lot of the guys are hypocrites”: Billy Horschel calls ‘lying’ LIV Golf players over schedule woes

Billy Horschel

Billy Horschel has been known to be quite vocal about matters in the world of golf. The LIV Golf Series has caused quite a lot of controversy in the golf world. The Saudi backed series has caused a split amongst the golfers, with each of them expressing their opinions about the series. As several golfer also leave the PGA Tour for the LIV Series, those loyal to the former have called out the latter.

The world no. 15 has quite a lot of things to say at the Tuesday press conference ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club. Horschel said that at the PGA Tour, everyone plays atleast 15 events. The LIV Schedule next year will have 14 events on the calendar. “So to say players to say they are going to play 29 events a year and still hold membership of the PGA Tour is ridiculous. You only have to play four on the DP World Tour outside of the majors and the WGCs,” said Horschel according to the Golf Digest.

Several LIV Golf defectors cited the reason that the PGA schedule was too hectic for them to meet their families, which is why they chose to make the switch, where they would have more time to themselves. However, the DP Tour and the PGA Tour have banned or sanctioned the defectors, and the latter are threatening to take legal action over it.

“Just coming over to play the big events on the DP World Tour helps, but that’s not supporting the tour,” pointed out Horschel. “They [the LIV players] keep talking about how PGA Tour doesn’t listen to them. But a lot of guys are hypocrites. They are not telling the truth and lying about some things. I just can’t stand to sit here anymore and be diplomatic as I have been in the past.”

Horschel said that he has nothing against the LIV Series players, or why they have chosen to play the breakaway series instead. He does however feel that, “Jay Monahan and everyone at PGA Tour headquarters work tirelessly to give us financial rewards and all the opportunities that we have.” Horschel said that schedule was not an excuse enough, and it made everyone sound like a hypocrite instead.
