World No.3 Jon Rahm’s departure from the PGA Tour was a huge blow to the golf world as everyone was stunned by his decision. Despite signing a nearly $600 million contract with the breakaway circuit, the golfer claimed how much he missed playing on some Tour events in 2024.
Regardless of Rahm’s feelings, former golfer Brandel Chamblee finds himself unable to accept the Spaniard’s decision after all his talk about legacy. Speaking on media at ‘Live From The Masters’, Chamblee blasted Rahm for letting himself get sold to the Saudi-backed league which has been “heavily fertilized in greed”.
He further added, how Rahm’s departure wasn’t the tipping point for the PGA-LIV merger or even the sport of golf like he had thought. Chamblee was referring to his comment, “I could be the start of a tipping point in that sense.” However, things did not unfold as expected. The merger is yet to officially get its stamp, while LIV’s fight for OWGR ended in vain.
He thought his departure was gonna be the tipping point. It wasn’t the tipping point at all.Brandel Chamblee on X.
Chamblee labeled Rahm as someone who “went from being viewed as his own man to being somebody that could be bought.” He blasted the 29-year-old saying he left the history and legacy behind for money and finances of the Saudi league. He said how LIV’s “core is malevolent in nature” and how the money has been “fertilized in greed.”
Jon Rahm admits missing PGA Tour events following departure to LIV Golf
Jon Rahm admitted how he much misses competing in the PGA Tour events since his $600 million deal with LIV Golf. Despite knowing his key position in the Tour, his exit was heavily influenced by money. He revealed money played a big part in his decision, and in the end, he did “what I thought was best for me and my family.”
He thought his move to LIV would be the key factor in the PGA-LIV merger, although it’s far from its official form as of now. He wishes he could return and play at the Tour events sometime in the future,
I still love the PGA Tour and I still hope at some point I can compete there again.Jon Rahm as per Sky Sports.
However, the merger is far from happening any time soon. December 31 was one of the auspicious dates when the golf world thought of learning more about the framework agreements standpoint, however, it was postponed to a later date. Recently, PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan met with Tiger Woods and Jay Monahan to discuss further it, but no details of the meeting were revealed to the public.
