“She hung tough till the end”: Brooke Henderson makes impressive comeback to win second Major title and Evian Championship

Brooke Henderson held a five stroke lead midway through the third round of the Evian Championship and a two shot lead going into the last day. She eventually claimed the top spot at the Championship, but not without a fair bit of drama first. The Canadian became the second golfer to win a major championship with a four-putt in 2022. While Scottie Scheffler’s four putt went off with a bit of a laugh, Henderson found herself on the silent end of the challenge.

As she hit a four putt she found Nelly Korda has quickly caught up to her, and within an hour six golfers held the lead. Japan’s Mao Saigo, Lydia Ko, Charley Hull, Kim Hyo-Joo and Carlota Ciganda all eventually fell back. However, Korda was having a fantastic day but even her luck seemed to run out by the end. It was now up to the young American Sophia Schubert to challenge Henderson for the title, but the latter managed to show great resolve to clinch the top spot.

Brooke Henderson, who also 2016 Women’s PGA Championship, managed to hold off a lot of threatening golfers to take a sweet victory and a second Major title. “I’m super excited to have my second major win,” said Brooke Henderson. “I’ve had quite a good start to the season. “I feel good going into the Scottish and British [AIG Women’s Open]. I’m back in contention, especially in a major,” she said to BBC.

“It was definitely an interesting day. Not the day I wanted but I stayed patient,” added Henderson. “The saying is majors are won on the back nine on Sunday, so I kept that in mind. I was just trying to stay calm coming down the stretch and didn’t know until the last hole where I stood,” she said. “I decided not to look at the leaderboards. It was not to be, but I’m very happy with my effort and I just want to carry the momentum through the rest of the season.”
