“They don’t have decency”: LIV Golf’s Greg Norman bashes uncooperative PGA Tour, calls ‘shame on them’

The LIV Golf Series has caused a lot of controversy recently, as it has sent the golf world into a hostile divide. As several golfers make the switch and face the wrath of the PGA and DP Tours, there are others that remained loyal. One can see how being offered 7 or 8 figure digits as a salary might be tempting for almost anyone, but others wonder how they can overlook the Saudi backing to the Series. Recently however, Greg Norman bashed the PGA Tour and its commissioner Jay Monahan.

Norman is surprised that the PGA has not come to the table to sort things out just yet. “(PGA Tour commissioner) Jay Monahan, if he had the decency to take our meetings right from the get-go none of this stuff would be in place today,” Norman said according to Fox Sports. He felt like if they could sort things out, the game of golf would be in a much better place- and more so, the Tour would be in a much better place.

Names like Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter and Phil Mickelson- just to name a few- have made the switch to this new breakaway series. Norman believes that the PGA Tour got too lax with their players, taking for granted that they were a monopoly- the new tour giving them with a big shock. “They rested on their laurels thinking they’re the only game in town, they’re the monopolist, they can control the game and this is the way it’s going to be. From a player’s perspective I’ve always said the Tour works for us, we don’t work for the Tour. And I was in the minority with that voice.”

Norman knew that he was going to get backlash from the PGA. He understands that the new tour is different, but says that it is sad. “I think the PGA Tour, I actually feel sorry for them because they’ve really hurt themselves by the rhetoric they’ve been spreading. I’ve taken the high road. OK, you want to say these stupid things, go right ahead. Our business model has stood up to the players and they absolutely love it. Our product has stood up to the players and the fans and they absolutely love it.” LIV Golf is expected to announce its next wave of signed players, including Henrik Stenson, imminently.
