The newly inaugurated LIV Golf Series has caused quite the controversy in the golf world, as tensions run high amongst players. Several PGA Tour golfers have defected to the LIV Series, causing a major divide in opinions. The defectors have been reprimanded, suspended and criticised for joining the controversial Saudi backed series. However, golfers have started speaking up in defence of the LIV Series, while stating their reasons to leave the Tour.

Recently, golfer Rory McIlroy commented on Brooks Koepka’s recent move to the LIV Series ‘duplicitous’ for the way he handled his his move to the breakaway series. This was said considering the fact that Koepka had initially said that he would not make any move from the PGA Tour, but ended up doing so last minute instead.

Talking about McIlroy and the comments that were made, Koepka said, “Look, I got respect for Rory as a player. He’s good. He’s phenomenal. “I’ll be honest with you. I didn’t see it [the “duplicitous” comment]. I didn’t hear about it until basically like a day ago,” according to Sky Sports.

“So, look, he’s entitled to his opinion. He can think whatever he wants. He’s going to do what’s best for him and his family, I’m going to do what’s best for me and my family and can’t hate on anybody for that, and like I said, opinions change,” concluded the golfer, saying that it was his personal choice to make the switch.
