Brooks Koepka’s 2023 US PGA Championship win proved to be an important victory for the Saudi-backed tour. Since its establishment last year, there’s been a cold war between the two tours. While Koepka’s recent victory certainly calls for celebration, it was noted by Bryson DeChambeau that no one was around to congratulate the 18th hole on Sunday.
He’s upset that such a grand win took time to be celebrated rather than golfers going in for a congratulatory handshake. DeChambeau along with Koepka was among the 16 members of the Saudi-backed league to book a trip to Oak Hill this year.
Although DeChambeau and Koepka’s rivalry is well known among golf fans, the pro golfer is happy to put aside his differences to appreciate and celebrate his rivalry’s 5-Major title wins. It was the first time that a LIV player has won a major since PGA vs. LIV cold war back in 2022. Koepka beat Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler to snatch The Wanamaker Trophy.

Bryson DeChambeau stated that he was among the few players who stayed behind to congratulate Brooks Koepka on Sunday. He expressed that he’s going to “give respect where respect is due”. Furthermore, winning 5 majors is an incredible feat and it should be celebrated regardless of which tour one is from.
The duo was paired on Saturday’s 3rd round where they got aggressively booed by fans for their switch from PGA to LIV. When asked about the impact of the situation, DeChambeau said, “…everybody has the right to their opinion, and I’d say, was it worth it? Absolutely.”
There was a moment where DeChambeau lost his composure following a provocative taunt from a bystander where the fan screamed out, “Laying up doesn’t make you p***y”. The golfer was checking his lie in the rough during the final round when the incident took place. After a moment of contemplation, he blasted the fan stating, “Shut the f**k up”.
Regardless of these incidents, he was quick to celebrate Koepka’s win saying that his victory validates everything LIV Golf is about. He hopes people forget about the bias and starts to look at the game of golf. DeChambeau is excited to “provide the game of golf with something new and fresh.”
He further stated that he believes at some point both PGA and LIV will have to sit together and discuss how to co-exist for the development of the sport. Previously Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy stated that PGA and LIV can never come together as long as Greg Norman remains as the CEO.
But a change may be on the horizon, but it is still in the future to see. As of now, the LIV players will be teeing off for Trump National Golf Club in Washington to start LIV’s latest event. DeChambeau and Koepka will also be part of the event.
