Cameron Smith is one of the biggest names in the world of golf and has a huge fan following. However, he has been in limelight for all the wrong reasons off late since the day he decided to join the controversial LIV Golf.

His decision of swapping the PGA Tour for the rebel league did not go well with thousands of fans and others involved in the golfing world. However, he has already won one title at LIV Golf and with two Championships around the corner – the World No.2 golfer will be looking to end the season on high.

Smith has acknowledged, he signed with LIV because of the guaranteed sum of jaw-dropping $100 million. As well as being able to spend more time in his homeland, the move was also attractive because it would give him the opportunity to live there longer.

“After Miami, I’ll probably spend another week in the U.S. and then I’ll come down and play the [Australian PGA Championship in November and Australian Open in December],” Smith said on ABC radio in Australia. “I’ll basically stay through there until probably the start of February,” the Australian golfer said.

The 29-year-old golfer also said that he is happy with the competition in the Saudi-backed league and no one can deny the competitiveness of the league. He played his first event in Boston and went on to lift the title at the Chicago event.

“We’ve had six or seven major winners over the last three or four years sign with LIV; the competition’s still there at the top end,” Smith said. “When you’re playing against guys like Dustin Johnson, who’s won [24 times] on the PGA Tour it still makes you think out there.”

Because of his decision to jump on the LIV Golf, Smith has been suspended by the Tour and there are huge question marks over his and other LIV golfers’ participation in major championships next year. Uncertainty still exists about whether Augusta National and the PGA of America might modify their eligibility requirements for LIV players in 2023.

“I hope [I can play],” Smith said. “Obviously, I can’t speak for them [Augusta]. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to get back there. It’s a place I love, and I’ve got a pretty good record around there, too. So it would be pretty heartbreaking if I couldn’t get back there.”
