The shocking merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf took everyone by surprise. A move that was truly out of the blue raised several questions regarding the future of golf. One of the major talking points had been the future of LIV Golf. A few days back veteran Sir Nick Faldo claimed that the league will not survive after the merger goes through. LIV Golfer Cameron Smith has now refuted this statement.

Sir Nick Faldo is busy preparing himself to host the 151st British Open. During this, he was asked about the future of the breakaway league. The golf veteran is one of the many who was not fond of the league and made a bold prediction that it will stop existing later on. As the LIV Golf prepares itself to return to London, Smith claimed that the league will not be going away any time soon.

I really can’t see LIV Golf going away. I think team golf is here to stay, and if you asked every one of us out here, all the 48 guys, I think everyone has such as good time,” Smith said in the press conference. The Aussie golfer brought up the point made by Graeme McDowell on how team events bring the guys close. “I don’t think it is going anywhere,” Smith added later.

Interestingly by this time last year, Smith was not a part of the LIV league. During the British Open speculations and rumors regarding his move to LIV started to surface up. Smith would go on to take the British Open crown and later join the LIV league in a multi-million deal.

There is no doubt that the future of golf is likely to change after the current schedule comes to an end. What changes will be implemented is something that cannot be discussed right now. However, questions regarding the existence of LIV Golf have been growing with each passing day. The tour though is keeping that topic aside and preparing a grand return to where it all began for them.

The next stop for the Saudi-backed tour is London. The United Kingdom capital played host to the ever-first LIV event. Since then the league has made their presence felts in Spain and Australia. As a reason, this event is one of the most anticipated tournaments among LIV fanatics preparing themselves for a three-day fest.

The ninth event of the 2023 tour will be played at the Centurion Club. The tournament will commence on July 7th. Golfer Talor Gooch will come into the event as one of the favorites. He has been in impressive form this year and has picked up three wins, including the victory at Valderrama last weekend.
