Teams have settled down quickly with the Zurich Classic of New Orleans just a few days away. One of the teams competing at this event of the PGA Tour is the duo of Collin Morikawa and Max Homa. At a press conference, the pair shared their insights and experience about their first meeting in 2016.

Back then Morikawa was just an amateur, while Homa had just settled in as a professional golfer. The latter was still trying to earn a spot on the PGA Tour after winning the 2013 NCAA championship. “When I met him seven years ago, he was pretty shy. He was in his bubble. I was not in his friend group yet, especially back then,” Morikawa said at the conference.

The duo met fellow California golfer Brandon Hagy for a nine-hole practice round. This occurred at the Capital Classic, an event later known as Korn Ferry Tour. It is a minor-league professional event held in Wichita, Kansas. At that time, Homa paid no interest in Morikawa but was soon left stunned.

While Homa failed to make a cut, Morikawa showed off his golfing abilities. Morikawa was able to force a three-way playoff but eventually lost it. It was enough for Homa, though, as Morikawa was able to leave a good impression. The duo is considered one of the favorites to go the distance this year.

The Zurich Classic is a professional golf event that has been held annually since 1958. It is held in Louisiana, Avondale in New Orleans. It is the only team event on the PGA Tour. It has a total prize pool of $8.6 million. This team event involves changing rounds of four-ball and foursome play. Though players compete as a team, every player must use their own ball for the entire format.

The event features a par 72 course. The maximum length of the field will be 7,425 yards. A total of 80 teams will take part this year. Last year this event was won by the team of Xander Schuaffele and Patrick Cantlay. They defeated Billy Horschel and Sam Burns by two strokes. This year the tournament will be played from 20th April to 23rd April.

The team of Morikawa and Homa will take on the sibling duo of Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick. He will be going into this tournament on a high note after winning the 55th RBC Heritage. He defeated Jordan Speith in an intense play-off round.
