The name Donald Trump continues to create drama and controversy around the world. The former US president is one of the most popular people in the world.
While his political career has seen his name become a trending topic on several occasions, his golfing career has caused a stir as well. He once claimed that he shot in the low 70s at an extremely difficult US Open course on Winged Foot.
Trump has seen his fair share of controversies around the sport of golf. In the past few years, the former American leader has been playing lots of rounds. One of these was at the Winged Foot course, the site of the 2019 US Open.
As per several golfers and experts, the Winged Foot course is described as one of the hardest courses in the world. Shooting a low score has been difficult, even for some of the big names in golf. The 77-year-old Trump not only conquered the course, but he claimed to have done it while posting a low score of 70.
In 2019, this course served as the host for the US Open. That year, Bryson DeChambeau emerged as the victor and walked away with the crown. He thought he did not have it the easy way, as he posted scores of 68, 68, 70, and 67. So, the golfing fans were left stunned when Trump claimed that he did it too while being able to keep his score.
What did Donald Trump say after he posted a low score at Winged Foot?
Apart from being one of the most popular people on the globe, Donald Trump is also one of the most active people on social media. Time and again, he has shared his golfing achievements with the world. He even took a shot at current US President Joe Biden and claimed he has a very low handicap score compared to him (Trump).
Speaking to radio host Clay Travis back then, the politician proudly claimed he had managed to shoot a low score of 70. He also added that he has been a member of the course for a long time and knows the field very well.
I'd say low-70s... Quite a bit. Low-70s would be what I-I've been a member there for a long time. I could do pretty well. But it is just a great place. It's a wonderful place. I've enjoyed it for a long time.Donald Trump on his performance through the Washington Post
Author Rick Rielly though alleged that Trump cheated at the course. The writer claimed that caddies started calling him “Pele” for his actions as he kicked around the ball at the course instead of actually hitting it.
