Donald Trump, the renowned politician is now hoping to make some changes. The former US President is reported to be willing to redesign the Turnberry course in Scotland in hopes of once again hosting The Open Championship.

The Open, is one of the four majors of golf and is held during the month of July. While the tournament has been held at some of the most prestigious courses of the world, it has not returned to this site since 2009, which is something that Trump wants to change.

The 77-year-old politician though suffered a massive setback in June 2023, when the R&A organizers blacklisted his course for The Open. A major reason for this decision has been due to the Capitol attack in 2021. The committee wants to avoid any such situation at his course during the major competition.

What changes are set to be implemented at the Turnberry course?

While the R&A have made their intentions clear, Donald Trump does not seem to back down. The 45th USA President is bringing in some drastic changes to the course in attempts to bring The Open Championship back.

The course underwent significant changes in 2016, with a new ninth hole being introduced. Apart from this, the tenth and eleventh hole also saw its structure being remodeled. The new changes would see big updates being made on the seventh and eight hole.

According to Bunkered, the 7th hole will be moved to the west of its current position. This will see the tees of the eight hole being moved along as well.

The development proposals are entirely in keeping with the established quality of Trump Turnberry and the desire to ensure that the integrity of The Ailsa is retained as an iconic golfing destination.
The planning consultancy said in a statement to The Times.

It will be interesting to see if these changes will bring in any change in fortune for Trump. He is now keeping his fingers cross and hopes to see his plan become successful.

Speaking off the course, recent reports claimed that it made a profit of $723,800 in 2022, the first profit since Trump took ownership. Meanwhile his other course, Trump International Golf Club Scotland lost more than $938,260 last year after losing a reported $886,134 the year before.
