$5 MILLION raised for Saudi Ladies International Golf at par with Men’s Prize pool

Saudi Ladies Golf
The Golf Saudi association has dazzled its way up the news headlines with a praiseworthy attempt of raising the prize for Aramco Saudi Ladies, much to match the pool prize for the men’s series. It’s hardly been two years since the women’s series was introduced in the Saudi Golf game formats, and yet they have managed to accumulate a fund equaling the 7th largest prize pool in the world. Well, this is some commendable advancement and especially the equality factor cannot be overlooked here.
The golf community and Saudi Arabia can easily be tagged as camaraderie since they gained traction with the start of the cross-border LIV Golf series. Saudi Ladies International is supposed to be a part of the Ladies European Tour and will be backed by the PIF sovereign fund.
This year’s Saudi International was won by Harold Varner III, making a staggering $5 million dollar as the prize pool was already decided for the men’s international series. The few alterations now include the golf series making it to a part of the Asian Tour and of course the big leap in assuring a winning prize of $750,000 matching the total of total 27 matches on the Ladies European Tour.
Bold and beautiful statement for the Saudi Golf ladies

The Ladies European Tour commissioner Alexandra Armas went vocal about the opportune development of raising the money saying, “from a practical perspective, it has an enormous impact on very talented athletes that have a chance to compete for very significant money.” It’s not only agreeable but also a positive step in the name of Saudi Arabia which remains in the headlines for all the wrong reasons including HR violations from time to time.
Armas also explained their stand on the equality the women participants deserved, throwing light on the importance of their effort. She said, “For the women to have a prize fund equivalent to the men is a bold statement and a very important statement that needed to be made.” Georgia Hall, a former Women’s British Open champion, also said that this might end up creating a domino effect for other companies to raise the bar.
The $5 million reward is reserved for 5 major championships along with the CME Group Tour Championship on the LPGA Tour. It’s nothing new to mention that the Public Investment Fund of Saudi is also the main sponsor of LIV Golf and that Greg Norman (Chief Executive, LIV) gave a pro-women statement in his interview last month. He mentioned, “If there’s an opportunity for us to have an open conversation and dialogue with women, I’m very much at the forefront of that.”
