“Is that legal?”: Golfer Hunter Mahan left questioning PGA Tour’s startling response to LIV Golf Series

The LIV Golf Series has caused its fair share of controversy since its inception. The controversial Saudi backed series has seen quite the backlash, and the LIV Golf players who defected are facing huge sanctions by the PGA Tour. Those who remained loyal are heavily criticising players who made the switch but there are others who are defending the choice as well. The LIV Series comes with its set of attractive and useful offers, including large signing contracts and an easy going schedule.
Golfer Hunter Mahan has made over $30 million throughout his PGA Career, but there are new pro golfers who are signing on to a lot more at the LIV Series. “The players are the ones winning in this situation. How can I sit there and tell them, no, you’re not allowed to take that?” Mahan said to golf.com. Offers as high as $200 million have been signed, and to anyone it is a stable source of income.
Hunter Mahan believes in golf ‘free agency’; feels golfers should be able to make their own choices, even with LIV Golf

Mahan believes in the virtue of a golf “free agency.” “I’m happy for the guys playing for the LIV tour. They make their own choices, and having choices is never a bad thing,” he said. These choices have come with great sacrifices unfortunately. Recently Henrik Stenson got renounced as Ryder Cup captain, and several golfers like Ian Poulter got booed at the Open. “Is that legal?” Mahan questioned. “You can’t just tell someone they can’t do something when they’ve earned the right to do it.”
“This is what leverage looks like,” Mahan said. “It’s uncomfortable.” A group of people are suffering because of the PGA Tour. “I’m a little worried for the fans,” Mahan said. “Are we not going to see these players compete against each other?” This is far from over for Hunter Mahan. It often echoes the public opinion that the LIV Golf Series and the PGA Tour need to work out a system and find peace with themselves.
