Fan favorite golfer, John Daly has pulled out of the 2023 PGA Championship event recently, due to an undisclosed injury. The former champion will be replaced by German golfer Stephan Jaeger at Oak Hill Country Club in Pittsford, NY.

Following the initial field release, Daly 57 joined the group of golfers who earlier withdrew from the event – Jason Dufner, Martin Kaymer, Davis Love III, and Vijay Singh. After his 1991 Tour win, he won the right to participate in this event for life.

This’ll be the fourth time, the fans will miss their favorite golfer on the greens. Daly tied for 18th place in 2012, while missing the cut in his past eight appearances. On Monday the tournament announced Daly’s withdrawal on social media as he exclaimed that he was “really disappointed” to miss the championship event.

He further stated that this event means the world to him and has always occupied a special place in his heart. John Daly wished the best for those who are competing on social media. The 57-year-old legend has been suffering from a string of injuries since winning two Majors titles including the 1995 Open Championship.

Another former champion to miss the event is the GOAT Tiger Woods. He’s still recovering from his ankle surgery and had to pull his punches several times on the greens due to the discomfort of walking. Daly has yet to make the cut since his 2019 Barracuda Championship.

According to records, he placed 69th on the field. Collin Morikawa took the crown of the event. Daly has been a fan favorite not only for his monstrous tee shots but also for his unprofessional-like character. His not-so-traditional look made his way into the fans’ hearts over the years.

He’s been ringed with injuries, the latest being his knee replacement on December 22, 2022, including bladder cancer in September 2020 and April 2021 when the cancer was reportedly benign. Most recently Daly has played in Regions Tradition including 7 PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions events this year, according to USA Today.

Fans are hoping the best for the champion to recover and return on the greens by the time of The Open at Royal Liverpool in July. It’ll be exciting to see the golfer compete again on the greens in full health.

Stephan Jaeger who’ll be replacing Daly has been listed in the 117th spot in the OWGR. Although Dufner has not revealed his reason to withdraw from the PGA Championship event, Kaymer stated he’ll pull out due to an injury on his wrist. The tournament is scheduled to begin on May 18.
