“The what, sorry?”: Jon Rahm’s cluelessness about commitment to new PGA Tour Series might be the reason for LIV Golf’s creation
Jon Rahm
The PGA Tour has recently come out with a new series, Elevated events, that aims to bring together the top golfers of the world to play even more events. The decision comes most likely as a reaction to the LIV Golf series, and is changing the future of pro golf- all led by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. However, Jon Rahm’s cluelessness regarding the entire situation begs the question- is the PGA Tour under immense pressure to change the way golf is because of the threat of the LIV Golf series?
World no. 6 Jon Rahm was asked about whether the 20 Elevated events from next year that the top 20 Players had to commit to was asking too much of the European players. “The what sorry?” was Jon’s surprising reply to the question that took him by surprise. It was then made clear to Rahm that he would have to play the rider cup as well. “We have to play all of them?” he asked.
Rahm said that it was not ideal for him to have to play all the events. “That would put me in a difficult position. I would have to play from January to August 20 times. I think this [Tour Championship] is my 17th from January and I don’t think I could add any more,” quipped the player.

Jon Rahm hopes that the PGA Tour will make an exception for some European players
The lack of consideration for the European players seemed to raise a lot of questions amongst fans on twitter. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they revised the rules or make an exception for some of the players,” hoped Rahm. This however makes it clear that the PGA could have been under immense pressure to create this tour, leading to possible cracks in the system.
