“There’s nothing to sit out here and fix”: Justin Thomas gets wise advise from Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay at PGA range

Justin Thomas has gotten some valuable advise from his caddie from time to time, and this time was no different. Thomas said he received some valuable advise from his caddie Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay on the Southern Hills last Saturday.

Thomas said that he would not have been able to turn the game around and win at the PGA Championship if it had not been for the advise of his caddie Mackay. The story begins when Thomas had just signed for a third round 74, and he would be starting the fourth round seven shots out of the lead. Feeling the pressure, this was the time that Mackay gave Thomas the “Talk”.

According to golf.com Mackay went on to say, “That 74 wasn’t great. But you’re good. Let’s leave.” Mackay went on to explain that the caddie who went with the golfers do not have the kind of pressure that the latter face. The golfers are trying to win the championship, and go home with that kind of pressure too. “So it’s easy for me, in that kind of context, to see something in maybe a slightly different light than Justin was.”

Mackay knows when Thomas gets frustrated, especially when he hasn’t been playing well. Mackay says that he did what any other caddie would have- to tell the golfer that they were playing well. “Again, it’s easy for me to say it, because, again, I’m carrying the bag and getting the dirt out of the grooves and telling him he’s got 178 and all that stuff, but in those moments, when those guys have so much pressure on yourself, hopefully we’re in a position to say something that will hopefully make life a little easier for those guys,” said Mackay.

However, that simple piece of advise turned out to be gold for Thomas, who took a fantastic 67 on Sunday and went on to win the PGA championship in a playoff.
